Babi: Bumiputera, wakil Umno terlibat
Apr 14, 08 12:35pm

Can Khairy reinvent himself?
Ong Kian Ming and Oon Yeoh | Apr 14, 08 10:36am
analysis There has been much speculation on the political future of Khairy Jamaludin in the aftermath of the 2008 General Elections.

It can be said that Khairy’s first reinvention was to recast himself as a Malay ultra. He clearly felt that because of his Oxford education and Westernised upbringing he was not Malay enough for Umno Youth. So, he decided to build up his street credentials, so to speak.

Mahathir: I regretted appointing Pak Lah

harakahdailynet-saya-kesal-lantik-abdullah-tun-mahathir

.. whether I regret or not for appointing him, yes I do. When i appointed him last time, he was known as Mr Clean. He was so clean.

‘Saya kesal lantik Abdullah’ – Tun Mahathir

Dulu bukan main bersih.” Image

Image

Khir Toyo: your exit plan, Pak Lah

pak lah and khir toyo

Khir tells PM to detail out exit plan
Apr 14, 08 1:22pm
Former Selangor menteri besar Dr Mohd Khir Toyo has called on Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to put in place a succession plan that will see Najib Abdul Razak taking over without any delay.
Let Najib take over
Carry out reforms in gov’t, party
Umno tidak sabar lihat PM berundur
Apr 13, 08 3:23pm

“Kedua, beliau menyebut Datuk Seri Najib bakal penggantinya.

Mahathir: Resign now Pak Lah

Mahathir: Malaysia’s PM Must Resign Now

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Malaysia’s former leader Mahathir Mohamad on Saturday urged the prime minister to step down immediately instead of planning a protracted power transition, the national news agency reported.

Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi told ruling party officials on Friday that he would eventually hand over power to his deputy, Najib Razak. However, Abdullah is only expected to determine details of the succession after the ruling United Malays National Organization holds its annual congress in December.

Speaking at a political forum late Saturday, Mahathir said Abdullah should resign immediately because most party members want a change in leadership after the government suffered severe setbacks in last month’s general elections, the national news agency Bernama reported.

“For his own good, he should step down now, because then it’ll be very smooth,” Mahathir was quoted as saying. “But if he waits until the (ruling party) assembly, then you don’t know what people are going to say.”

Mahathir — who appointed his then-deputy Abdullah to succeed him in October 2003 — refused to say whether he supported the plan for Najib to become prime minister, but acknowledged it would be in line with government tradition.

Aides to Mahathir could not immediately be contacted Sunday.

Mahathir ruled Malaysia for more than two decades, and he remains influential and well-respected in the ruling party although he holds no official post.

Despite personally picking Abdullah as his successor, Mahathir is now the prime minister’s most vocal critic and has been demanding his resignation since the ruling National Front coalition lost its two-thirds majority in Parliament and control of five state legislatures in March 8 elections.

Some United Malays National Organization leaders have blamed Mahathir’s unstinting criticism of Abdullah’s policies for the government’s electoral losses.

Abdullah has repeatedly said he will not resign anytime soon, insisting that he still commands widespread support. Nevertheless, he has accepted partial responsibility for the poor election results and stressed that he will not cling to power for too long.

Party officials have said Abdullah suggested at a private meeting Friday that he would only discuss how and when to hand power to Najib after the year-end assembly of the United Malays National Organization party, which leads the National Front.

Najib — the eldest son of Malaysia’s second prime minister, Abdul Razak Hussein — indicated Saturday that he was in no hurry to take power and that no deadline was being considered, saying that a leadership transition “can wait.”

“Give room to the top leadership, particularly the party president (Abdullah), to think of the best ways to restore the party and win back confidence,” Najib said.

Mahathir: Quit Now Pak Lah

afp-malaysias-mahathir-urges-pm-to-quit-now-to-save-reputation

Malaysia’s Mahathir urges PM to quit now to save reputation

KUALA LUMPUR (AFP) — Former Malaysian leader Mahathir Mohamad has called on Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to resign immediately, saying his reputation will be shredded if he insists on staying on in the top job.

Mahathir renewed his campaign to oust Abdullah shortly after the prime minister reportedly told his party he would hold discussions after December internal party polls on a handover of power to his deputy Najib Razak.

“For his own good he should step down now because then (the transition) will be very smooth but if you wait until the (party polls) you don’t know what the people are going to say,” Mahathir said late Saturday.

“There may be rude remarks, they may say, ‘Why don’t you go?’ You know, all the kinds of nasty accusations, finger pointing,” he told reporters after addressing 1,000 United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) members.

“If he waits until the elections, it will cause a major split within the party because those who support him and those who oppose him will clash at the assembly.”

Abdullah has faced persistent calls to quit after the coalition lost its two-thirds majority in parliament and control of five states in an unprecedented setback in March 8 general elections.

He has claimed a mandate to rule, but confirmed that Najib will succeed him, in line with the tradition of his UMNO which heads the coalition.

Mahathir’s comments came after Abdullah took partial responsibility for the party’s electoral losses at an UMNO meeting in southern Johor state.

“I’m partly to blame,” Abdullah said according to weekend reports in which he also responded to calls by UMNO leaders in the northern states of Kedah and Penang for him to step down in favour of Najib.

“There have been demands… it does not matter that they want to express themselves on the matter of stepping down,” he said according to the official Bernama news agency.

“I am not one who is going to retain the leadership forever,” he added.

Party vice president Muhyiddin Yassin said Abdullah told the Johor gathering he will discuss a transition of power to Najib, with the talks to take place after the December internal UMNO polls, Bernama reported.

“The period of transition and so on were not mentioned in detail… matters such as when the transition will take place and so on will be discussed between him and… Najib,” Muhyiddin told Bernama.
